The city of Southfield shares a portion of its southern border with Detroit city. The city was formerly a part of Southfield Township and joined in 1958. Let us explore the Detroit Zoo, which is one of the most notable landmarks of the area.

At The Detroit Zoo

Visitors can observe polar bears elegantly swim over their heads in this state of the art facility. The Arctic Ring of Life contains the Frederick and Barbara Erb Polar Passage, which is more than 70 feet long. Born in 2012, the female polar bear Suka came to the Detroit Zoo in 2018 to join Nuka, a male polar bear born in 2004. He reached the facility in 2011. born in 2000, Anana is a female who came to the zoo in the early months of 2020.

Meet The Gray Seals 

The habitat of the polar bears includes a saltwater pool, a pack ice area, a freshwater pool, and a grassy tundra. Detroit Zoo also prides upon itself as being the homes of rescued seals. A free gray seal, Jersey was born in 2014 and was rescued from the shoreline of New Jersey. Georgie is a female gray seal who was born in 2012 and got rescued and was brought here in 2013.

Visit The Arctic Foxes

There are also three arctic foxes sisters here at the zoo. Alex is the oldest one and has been living here since 2008. She stays back and keeps a keen eye on Roxanne and Moxie, who came here two years later. Roxanne is the dominant one out of the three, while Moxie follows her around.
